New Policy Regarding Foreigner eTAs
Due to recent regulatory changes by the Somali Immigration Authority, our processing services for non-Somali citizens have changed.
Why we can no longer assist foreigners
Effective immediately, the Somali Government has introduced a strict new **Sponsorship Policy**. All foreign passport holders (non-Somalis) are now required to provide a digital Sponsor Code and a Sponsor Letter from a locally registered Somali organization.
The Challenge of Liability
By providing a Sponsor Code, a local company becomes legally and financially responsible for the traveler's actions and safety within the country. If a traveler commits a crime or faces an issue, the government holds the sponsor accountable.
Because of this high level of legal responsibility, registered tourism companies in Mogadishu have increased their sponsorship fees significantly—often reaching $500 USD or more per person.
At SomaliaETA.com, we believe in providing affordable and transparent services. Since we cannot secure these sponsorship codes at a reasonable price for our clients, we have made the difficult decision to stop accepting new applications for foreign passport holders.
What should you do now?
- Contact an Embassy: We recommend visiting the nearest Somali Embassy or Consulate in your region to apply for a traditional visa.
- Direct Government Portal: You may attempt to apply directly at
etas.gov.soif you already have a verified local sponsor who can provide you with a code. - Specialized High-End Agencies: Look for full-service tour operators in Mogadishu who specialize in high-cost sponsorship packages.
Are you of Somali Origin (Qurba-Joog)?
This policy change does not affect Somali diaspora members holding foreign passports. We continue to provide 24-hour fast-track services for the Somali community at our standard rates.
